A few good questions
Will my barcode work in most stores?
Yes! Your Bar Codes Talk barcode uses the standard UPC or EAN format that retailers use around the world. A small number of stores have extra requirements about where you get your numbers. This checker helps you spot those exceptions.
Why do a few stores insist on GS1?
Some stores want a GS1 registration or certificate in their supplier’s name. That is part of their supplier policy. If a store specifically asks for it, follow that requirement—we’ll point you in the right direction. Some EDI and product-data providers may also have their own GS1 requirements; send us their request and we’ll help you work out what you need.
What about Amazon?
Sellers use our barcodes on Amazon every day. Amazon can be particular about brands, categories, and listing details, so an error message doesn’t automatically mean you need another barcode. Start with our Amazon Listing Hub, and contact us if you need a hand.
Do I need a different barcode for every store?
No. The same product keeps the same barcode wherever you sell it. Different sizes, colors, flavors, and pack sizes need their own numbers. Each store still needs to add your product to its system.
Will scanning my barcode automatically show my product and price?
The store needs to add those details first. Your barcode identifies the product; the store’s own system supplies its name, price, and inventory information. Give the retailer your barcode along with the product details they request.
My store isn’t listed. What should I do?
Type its name and check it anyway. Our barcodes use the same retail standards wherever you sell; this guide highlights the stores with extra requirements. If your buyer asks for something specific, send it to us and we’ll help.
