Understanding Amazon FBA Fees

Referral Fee

Amazon charges 8-20% of the selling price depending on product category. Most categories are 15%. This is Amazon's commission for selling on their platform.

Fulfillment Fee

FBA charges for picking, packing, and shipping your product. Based on product size tier and weight. Ranges from $3.22 for small items to $150+ for large/heavy items.

Storage Fee

Monthly fee based on cubic feet. Standard rate is $0.87/cu ft (Jan-Sep) and $2.40/cu ft (Oct-Dec peak season). Long-term storage fees apply after 365 days.

Size Tiers

Amazon categorizes products into size tiers: Small Standard, Large Standard, Small Oversize, Medium Oversize, Large Oversize, and Special Oversize. Smaller = lower fees.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most successful FBA sellers aim for 25-35% net profit margin after all fees. At minimum, target 15-20% to account for returns, advertising, and unexpected costs. Higher margins (40%+) are possible but less common.

Reduce packaging to fit smaller size tiers, optimize product weight, increase selling price, avoid long-term storage fees by managing inventory, consider FBA Subscribe & Save for repeat customers, and negotiate better product costs with suppliers.

This calculator includes: Referral Fee, FBA Fulfillment Fee, Monthly Storage Fee, COGS, Shipping Costs, One-Time Upfront Costs, and PPC Advertising. It does not include: returns processing, removal fees, or long-term storage fees.

PPC cost per unit = Total Ad Spend ÷ Units Sold during the campaign. If you spend $500 on ads and sell 175 units, your PPC cost is $2.86/unit. This helps you understand the true cost of acquiring each sale.

One-time costs (samples, photography, design) are spread across your batch. For the first batch, include them. For reorders, you can set them to $0 since you've already paid these costs. This gives you a more accurate picture of ongoing profitability.
