Section 1 Getting Started

Your barcode package is ready to use immediately. Each UPC number is unique, legitimate, and works on Amazon, eBay, Walmart, retail stores, and anywhere else that accepts standard barcodes.

Quick Start Checklist

1. Download your barcode package from your order confirmation email

2. Open the PDF certificate and save it for your records

3. Use one UPC per unique product (size, color, etc.)

4. Follow Section 2 for Amazon or Section 4 for other platforms

Section 2 Listing on Amazon

Amazon uses UPC codes to identify products. When you create a new listing, you'll enter your UPC in the "Product ID" field. Here's exactly how to do it.

Step-by-Step Process

Step Action
1 Log into Seller Central → Catalog → Add Products
2 Click "I'm adding a product not sold on Amazon"
3 Select your product category
4 For "Product ID," choose UPC from dropdown
5 Enter your 12-digit UPC number (no dashes)
6 Complete remaining product details and save
Important: Enter your UPC exactly as shown—12 digits, no spaces or dashes. The "Product ID Type" must be set to UPC.

Section 3 Amazon Errors & Fixes

Amazon occasionally shows errors when adding products. Most are easily resolved. Here are the most common issues and their solutions.

Error 8572: Brand Name Issue

What it means: Amazon says your brand name doesn't match what's in their database for this UPC.

Solution: This happens when the UPC was previously registered with different brand info. Try these steps:

1. Use your exact brand name (check capitalization and spacing)
2. If that fails, try "Generic" or "Unbranded" as the brand name
3. Contact Amazon Seller Support to update the brand association

Error 5665: GS1 Brand Registry

What it means: Amazon is checking GS1's database and not finding your brand there.

Solution: Your UPCs are 100% valid. Amazon sometimes requires extra verification:

1. Open a case with Amazon Seller Support
2. Request they "whitelist" your brand for the UPC
3. Provide your authenticity certificate if requested

GTIN Exemption (Alternative Method)

When to use: If you continue having trouble with UPC validation, Amazon offers GTIN exemptions for certain categories.

Section 4 Other Marketplaces

Your UPC codes work on virtually all e-commerce platforms. Here's a quick reference for the major ones.

Platform UPC Field Location Notes
eBay Item Specifics → UPC Optional but improves visibility
Walmart Product Setup → UPC Required for most categories
Etsy Inventory → UPC Optional, helps with search
Shopify Product → Barcode For inventory management
Google Shopping Feed → GTIN field Strongly recommended

Section 5 Ownership & Certificates

Your purchase includes an authenticity certificate proving legitimate ownership of your UPC numbers.

What "Ownership" Means

When you purchase UPCs from Bar Codes Talk, you receive full rights to use those numbers indefinitely. There are no renewal fees or ongoing costs.

Note: Some barcode lookup tools show the original prefix owner (the company that first registered the number block with GS1). This is normal and doesn't affect your rights to use the barcode.

Company Name Updates

If you need updated documentation showing a different company name, contact support with:

• Your order number
• Current company name on file
• New company name requested
