What is an ASIN?

ASIN stands for Amazon Standard Identification Number. It's a unique 10-character alphanumeric identifier assigned by Amazon to every product in their catalog. ASINs are used to identify products across all Amazon marketplaces, though the same product may have different ASINs in different countries.

What's the difference between UPC and EAN?

UPC (Universal Product Code) is a 12-digit barcode used primarily in the United States and Canada. EAN (European Article Number) is a 13-digit barcode used internationally. Both serve the same purpose of uniquely identifying products. EAN-13 codes that start with "0" are equivalent to UPC-A codes (the leading zero is simply added).

Why might a UPC not return an ASIN?

There are several reasons: the product may not be sold on Amazon in that marketplace, the UPC might not be registered with the product listing, or the product listing may use a different UPC/EAN. Some sellers list products without barcodes using Amazon's FNSKU system instead.

Can one ASIN have multiple UPCs?
