What is a Country of Origin label?
A Country of Origin label indicates where a product was manufactured or produced. These labels are legally required for most imported goods and help consumers make informed purchasing decisions.
Does the GS1 barcode prefix tell me where a product is made?
No. The GS1 prefix only indicates which GS1 Member Organization assigned the barcode to the company, not where the product was manufactured. Products may be made anywhere in the world regardless of the barcode prefix.
What's the difference between UPC and EAN barcodes?
UPC is a 12-digit barcode system primarily used in the United States and Canada. EAN is a 13-digit barcode system used internationally. All UPCs can be converted to EANs by adding a leading zero.
What languages should my Country of Origin label use?
Language requirements depend on the destination country. US requires English. EU requires the official language(s) of the member state. Canada requires both English and French.
Can I use this tool for commercial purposes?
Yes, the labels generated by this tool are free to use for commercial purposes. However, you are responsible for ensuring that the country of origin information is accurate and complies with applicable regulations.
